An installation by eleven members, each creating a miniature representation of an area within the Hague guided by its physical, analog, virtual and digital data flows; visualizations
of processes rather than the city's visual appearance. The Hague's actual geography was used as a guide to arrange
the different projects within the installation.

My piece explores the Haagsemarkt, the Hague's large, open-air, market. After documenting market activity and customer density, the data representation began to form it
self around time, activity, and transfer of goods.

Each day, the nearly half-mile long market explodes with forty to sixty thousand visitors, yet each night it returns to a population of zero. The final product of this investigation is an inflatable, a market that rises and falls, a direct representation of human activity.

Lengths of wire represent different market pathways/exits, sponges characterize shops (yellow and red for dry goods, green and blue for wet), a bed sheet serves as the overall market area, and moving styrofoam balls demonstrate transfer of goods and money. When uninflated, wires are loose and styrofoam balls stand still. When inflating, wires become taunt, some balls become trapped in the market, others leave, acting out the flow of goods and money.

All materials were purchased at the Haagsemarkt, and the inflatable is created out of a hair dryer and trash bags.
